Busaba Eathai and Horizon Digital Economy Research introduce a new concept for an enhanced digital dining experience which allows customers to order, pay and queue jump, using a new app that is triggered by scanning decorative motifs and pattern designs on tableware, menus and placemats.
These new decorative markers are a shift in the field of visual recognition markers, replacing the clumsy and ubiquitous QR code which is challenged by a beautiful aesthetically pleasing pattern or motif. Smart phones work in conjunction with embedded patterns and motifs on objects, packaging, signage and fashion to bring new depths of functionality to the host object.
Being exhibited as part of The London Design Festival from 20 – 22 September 2012 at the Busaba Eathai restaurant, this exciting development will demonstrate new visual recognition techniques and illustrate the impact of the application through the collaboration with the Busaba Eathai dining experience. Five designers have developed over 15 new designs each one a visual trigger that unlocks an exciting array of functionality.
