To address the research challenges we probe the broad research questions with specific “research in the wild” activities that are informed by our commercial and public sector partners and involve real users. We operate within a number of sectors:
Creative industries – Our work here includes projects within the leisure and tourism sector, and new media. Horizon’s aim is to move beyond current conceptions of visiting by exploiting digital technology to enrich the entire visiting experience, blending on-line activities with augmented physical sites to allow creative connections between visitors and residents, and current and past events. The rich recording of such visiting events represents a new media type that is also available for creative production by citizens.
Transport - Horizon’s transport partners wish to move beyond current visions of transport management and navigation systems. We need to transform the journey of the future to make the experience more connected and the end-to-end journey integrated and satisfying.
Energy – Horizon aims to tackle a broad range of issues covering digital technologies which cater for the need for more efficient distribution and consumption of energy as well as those which provide a greater degree of education and control to the energy consumer, encouraging lasting changes in behaviour towards less wasteful energy use.
