Comment on My Memory Machine by Nancy

Really interesting post – reminded me of a similar experience I had recently when my parents presented me with lots of my old drawings, paintings and designs from A-level Art through to a BA in Design. I felt almost quite shy uncurling them to show my own children, one of whom is now doing A-level Art and Photography herself, what would they think? Memories of marks made a long time ago, some smudged and yellowing, all held together with curly, dry sellotape. In contrast, most of my daughter’s art-work exists digitally, as photographs taken with her phone or SLR, or even as digital paintings created in PhotoShop. These memories have no smell, they are multiple and as crisp and clear as when they were created. I wonder if she will be shy to open and show the files in years to come?
