Kuzi Makokoro Shares Research at Macromarketing Conference in Rio

Kuzi Makokoro (2022 cohort) had the chance to present her work on the Healthy Start Scheme at the 2025 Macromarketing Conference, held for the first time in the Global South, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 22-25 June, 2025.

The conference, celebrating its 50th year, brought together experts from around the world to discuss how companies, governments and NGOs can help build fairer markets that support people’s well-being and the growth of society.

This year’s theme, “Questioning markets and marketing: Advancing Macromarketing from multiple worldviews,” encouraged fresh perspectives on how markets shape our societies — both positively and in unexpected ways.

The conference covered a wide range of topics directly relevant to Kuzi’s PhD, including meaningful consumption systems, poverty and consumption, pricing and societal welfare, and the role of Artificial Intelligence in advancing macromarketing. These themes closely connect with her research on the Healthy Start Scheme, as well as her broader work examining the transition into parenthood and shopping behaviours from a macromarketing perspective.

Presenting an abstract she wrote, Kuzi shared her findings with a marketing-focused audience—a valuable opportunity to gain feedback and see how her novel approach fits within broader macromarketing research.

Kuzi also made valuable connections with academics worldwide and left with plenty of new ideas to explore.

We’re delighted to see Kuzi representing Horizon CDT and contributing to these important global discussions.
