PETRAS 2

Following on from the highly successful PETRAS Internet of Things Research Hub, the PETRAS National Centre of Excellence for IoT Systems Cybersecurity recognises that rapidly developing digital technologies, together with social and business trends, are providing huge opportunities for innovation in product and service markets, and government processes.  These opportunities come with challenges that include the development of technologies on the outskirts of the internet, such as artificial intelligence (AI) in the cloud and in Edge computing, IoT devices and networks and distributed ledger technology.

Our purpose is to create a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the opportunities, challenges and threats that will arise as edge computing nodes are deployed and when AI and ML (machine learning) are migrated to the periphery of the internet and into local IoT networks.

PETRAS 2 is transdisciplinary and research spans the physical and behavioural sciences – promoting an inclusive environment that attracts and connects academics, experts and organisations together, to form a strategic national research capability in the cybersecurity of devices and networks at the edge of the internet.

The PETRAS National Centre of Excellence for IoT Systems Cybersecurity is a consortium that connects 12 research institutions with outstanding expertise in securing the connected world. They are UCL, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Lancaster University, University of Warwick, University of Southampton, Newcastle University, Horizon Digital Economy Research at the University of Nottingham, University of Bristol, Cardiff University, University of Edinburgh and University of Surrey.
