Phuong Anh Nguyễn (Violet), from the Horizon CDT 2022 cohort, recently took part in the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Europe Chapter Annual Meeting 2025, which took place from 9-11 April in the historic city of Bologna, Italy—hosted by none other than the University of Bologna, the oldest university in the world!
Held at the stunning Piazza San Giovanni in Monte, this year’s conference brought together researchers and professionals from across Europe to explore cutting-edge developments in ergonomics and human factors. The programme featured presentations across key domains such as transport, healthcare and user experience, offering a broad view of how human factors are shaping real-world applications.
Violet presented her poster, “Integration of Personas in Transport Policymaking: Policymakers’ Perspective,” which explores how user-centred design tools can inform decision-making in public transport systems. The conference also featured a keynote by Professor Steven Dhondt, who highlighted the vital role of human-factors specialists in advancing a human-centric vision for Industry 5.0, emphasising how workplace innovation can shape the future of work and technology integration.
The event offered fantastic opportunities to connect with fellow researchers, share ideas and reflect on the evolving role of ergonomics in policy and practice.
