VOxjam – 8th August 2020

Horizon Digital Economy Research is joining the Mixed Reality Lab (MRL) to host the first VOxjam – a virtual Oxjam Festival.

The MRL has historically supported Oxfam’s music festival-cum-fundraiser, which is all about local communities of musicians delivering their own events in October of every year. In most years Beeston has taken in the most donations (in excess of £150,000) in the UK, despite being counted alongside proper cities. This year, with the ongoing coronavirus situation, the trusty plan of packing people up to the rafters of every café and pub in town over a weekend in October has had to change, and the Festival will run as a one-day virtual event on Saturday, August 8.

VOxjam will be built around a combination of socially distanced live music streaming and will blend live and recorded performances, with breaks from different venues, and 3D content – 360 degree videos that audiences can try at home using cardboard VR headsets!

Tickets are a £10 donation to Oxfam available via WeGotTickets and cover 10 solid hours of music and patter from pillars of the local music community.  We are also expecting some guest star appearances from around the world, and even some contributions from the MRL team!

VOxjam is very much an experiment and the big upside to making it virtual is that you, the potential audience, can spread the word far and wide. Distance is no obstacle! So please sign up if you can, and send the link to anyone who might be interested. http://oxjambeeston.org/event/voxjam/ . All content will be made available on Facebook and YouTube.
