The Right to Repair and Equal-IoT

Neelima Sailaja, Horizon Transitional Assistant Professor and Co-Investigator on this newly funded project explains “The explosion of IoT devices on the market and constant encouragement to upgrade is creating a range of sustainability and privacy issues that must be addressed in order to protect users and the environment. It’s a big task but as the technological landscape continues to evolve it’s vital we use our combined expertise to tackle these issues and ensure the future of IoT is sustainable and equal.”

Led by Lachlan Urquhart, Lecturer in Technology Law at Edinburgh Law School and visiting researcher at Horizon, this 2-year project – funded by the EPSRC – will explore the societal inequalities created by poor sustainability, data protection, and cybersecurity in current consumer internet of things (IoT) devices.
